There's home.
There's work.
And there's the place
you go in between.
Home
Where you sleep, eat, and start the day.
Work
Where most of your waking hours go.
The third place
The café where the barista knows your order, where you read for an hour, meet a friend or open your laptop. Where a neighbourhood actually happens.
A name for it
In 1989, the American sociologist Ray Oldenburg gave these places a name. He called them third places, and said a town can't really live without them.
Today, for more and more people, the third place is a specialty coffee shop.
And behind every one of them, someone did the work. They found the corner, signed the lease, picked the chairs, dialled in the grinder, hired the first barista and learned every regular's name. Most of them are still behind the counter every morning, thinking about the next refit, the next hire, the second site. Others will open their doors next year.
Third Place is for them.

Coffee Shop Nº3
Under the glass roof of Gare Maritime, our exhibitors build a complete coffee shop from scratch.
The space, the furniture, the bar, the machines, the menu, the team. For three days it runs like the real thing. Walk in, order a coffee, look at every choice up close and leave with ideas for your own bar.
